HUB logistics has published its 2024 sustainability report. The report presents the focus areas of the sustainability program and the measures through which the company has promoted sustainability during 2024.
According to Joni Sundelin, CEO of HUB logistics Group, sustainability requires commitment in all its aspects. For example, in environmental responsibility, it’s important for HUB logistics to focus first on reducing emissions.
“Last year, we invested in forklift equipment at our Hämeenlinna location. By acquiring three new electric forklifts, the site’s carbon dioxide emissions were reduced by 24.5 tons.”
In terms of social responsibility, HUB logistics focuses on creating a safe work environment and giving employees a sense of meaningful work.
“Meaningful work and a safe working environment are the foundations for productivity and quality, but above all, enjoying work is important to us. This is beautifully reflected in the fact that last year we received the Most Inspiring Workplaces in Finland recognition for the first time. The work we have been doing for several years to promote employee well-being is yielding results.”
Notes on Sustainability Work in 2024
At the center of economic responsibility is profitable growth, which aims to create value-producing HUB. Key metrics include revenue growth and EBT, with targets based directly on our strategic goals.
HUB logistics Group’s revenue and profitability improved from the previous fiscal year. Revenue for 2024 was 37.4 million euros, growing by 3.7 million euros compared to 2023. Profit for the financial year and operating profit percentage have developed favorably over the last three years. This has been influenced by new customer relationships and improved business efficiency in line with the strategy.

Development of our carbon footprint
We monitor the development of emission levels according to the GHG protocol in emission categories scope 1, 2, and 3. In 2024, our total emissions were 4310.5 tCO2, compared to 4498.8 tCO2 in 2023. Most of our emissions come from scope 3 emissions, accounting for 88% of emissions (2023: 81%).
Scope 1 emissions increased compared to the previous year. The fuel-powered equipment at our Turku site significantly increased the amount of light fuel oil. At our other sites, scope 1 emissions decreased.
For example, at the new premises of Kangasala wood packaging services, we switched to using renewable electricity in line with the group’s policy. Additionally, the entire forklift fleet was converted to electric, which reduced Scope 1 emissions. The site’s electric forklift fleet is charged with renewable energy, bringing the carbon dioxide emissions from both electricity use and forklift charging to zero.
Scope 2 and 3 emissions both decreased compared to the previous year. In Scope 2, emissions have decreased by 57.8% in one year.
Other observations about environmental responsibility:
- Fuel use has developed positively from a sustainability perspective, especially with increased use of renewable fuels. The reduction in diesel and gasoline consumption and the increased use of renewable diesel and light fuel oil are significant steps toward more sustainable fuel use.
- Our waste amount decreased from 810.3 tons in 2023 to 787.5 tons. Wood waste, cardboard waste, and energy waste are the three largest waste types, accounting for 95%.
- Kiinteistö Oy Hakkilan Lokki (HUB’s Vantaa Hakkila logistics center) achieved LEED EB Gold certification (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) in building sustainability and environmental friendliness.
- HUB logistics joined the City of Lahti’s climate partnership network, which encourages companies and communities to reduce carbon dioxide emissions and mitigate climate change.
Meaningful work and safe work community
During 2024, a total of 1172 safety observations were made at HUB. The number of safety observations has grown over the last five years, increasing by 124% since 2020.
In terms of work accidents, we fell short of our goal. During 2024, HUB experienced 34 work accidents, which is three more than in 2023. The increase in work accidents is based on an increase in commuting accidents. 26% of work accidents happened during commutes. The number of workplace accidents, on the other hand, decreased by one.
During 2024, HUB logistics introduced management safety walks as a new operational model to improve workplace safety. In addition to key personnel from the site, the CEO, Development Director, and business management participate in these walks. The idea behind this model is to identify and correct potential risk factors to keep the workplace safe for everyone.
In the annual employee survey, HUB logistics received the Most Inspiring Workplaces in Finland recognition from Eezy Flow. The survey results are compared to both previous years’ responses and the service provider’s standard, which helps to determine the company’s position in the employee norm. Based on the results, HUB logistics exceeded the Finnish employee norm (64.3), achieving 65.8 points in the People Power Index.
Sustainability program creates the foundation for sustainability work
The sustainability program completed in 2023 (link) has been in active use by the company for two years. The sustainability program outlines themes under which planned goals and measures are directed. With the program, sustainability was integrated into HUB logistics’ strategy.
“The sustainability program creates a foundation for long-term and sustainable operations. It’s great to see how sustainability is increasingly becoming a natural part of our daily work, and our understanding of sustainability has grown as our sustainability work has progressed. We are actively working with our client companies to achieve common sustainability goals, and I strongly believe that our sustainability program guides us in this area as well,” Sundelin comments.
In sustainability work, continuous development and long-term commitment are significant for HUB logistics.
“A review of our sustainability work last year demonstrates our commitment to sustainable development and responsible practices. We continue to work determinedly to achieve our goals and want to be a forerunner in our industry’s sustainability development,” Sundelin summarizes.
