HUB logistics’ Tampere wood packaging services has relocated to new premises in Kangasala. Wood packaging services will now operate at Lentolantie 20, 36220 Kangasala.
Wood packaging services serves for example industrial customers in the Pirkanmaa region, producing thousands of wooden packages annually. The product range includes custom-designed wooden packaging products such as wooden and plywood boxes, pallets, crate packaging, and sea freight boxes. The service provided to customers also includes packaging services, involving product protection and packaging.
The new location of wood packaging services in the Lentola industrial area along Highway 12 is easily accessible and serves the customers in the Pirkanmaa region well.
According to Heidi Haverinen, the unit manager of wood packaging services, the changes will enable better responsiveness to customer needs and provide improved customer service.
– In the new production facilities, we can increase production volumes. Thanks to a more efficient layout, packaging can be produced more efficiently, which serves our customers even better. Additionally, improvements have been designed for the new premises, such as compressed air rails installed in the roof structure, enhancing the safety of employees.
Investment in employee well-being and sustainability
With the relocation, HUB logistics invested in improving workstations and ergonomics. Heidi Haverinen states that the new premises not only offer a more modern and efficient working environment but also promote the health and well-being of employees.
– Our employee surveys have highlighted the need for better and more functional spaces. The previous property was aging and in poor condition. Its deteriorated floors posed safety risks and hindered work. In the new property, the facilities are in good condition, providing optimal conditions for efficient and safe work. For example, air quality significantly improves compared to before.
In the new premises, the 5S method is further developed to ensure that every employee can work ergonomically and efficiently. According to the 5S method, unnecessary items have been removed, and workstations have been optimized, reducing unnecessary movement and increasing work efficiency.
Special attention has also been paid to environmental considerations in the new premises. In line with the group’s guidelines, renewable electricity is now used at the site. With the relocation, the entire forklift fleet was converted to electric, reducing Scope 1 emissions and promoting more environmentally friendly logistics. The electric forklift fleet at the site is charged with renewable energy, resulting in zero carbon dioxide emissions from charging in addition to operational electricity.
Water-circulating air source heat pumps were installed in the production facilities to reduce carbon dioxide emissions from heating by approximately 80 percent. LED lighting was installed in collaboration with the property owner, saving energy and reducing the carbon footprint. Energy savings compared to the previous setup are 90 percent.
– We are actually quite excited about the new premises. We believe that the move will enable even better customer service and more environmentally friendly logistics, summarizes Heidi Haverinen.
