Working at HUB: Unit Manager Janne Uski

Töissä HUBilla: yksikönpäällikkö Janne Uski

HUB logistics started its operations at Raute in early March 2025. Experienced logistics professional Janne Uski began as the unit manager, bringing expertise in internal logistics development and change management.

With a degree in business administration, Janne Uski has consistently advanced in his career by taking on diverse roles. Before joining HUB, he worked at Isku for over 20 years in various positions, from special work planning to product development manager, and most recently, he was responsible for the order-to-delivery chain and logistics partnerships.

Diverse job roles and leading a significant internal logistics development project have provided valuable experience in project work and comprehensive internal logistics development.

– I was involved in internal logistics changes through investments and processes. In that project, I particularly learned systematic development and change management skills. During my career, I have had the opportunity to lead various teams, which will certainly be beneficial in this new role.

HUB’s values and the spirit of doing things attracted

Starting at a new workplace can bring a bit of nervousness even for an experienced professional, but Janne has felt welcome right away. The reception from the staff and the customer has been warm.

– During my first week, I visited the logistics center in Vantaa and met many new people at once. It felt like I was immediately part of the team. I got the same feeling at Raute. It was like coming to two new workplaces at the same time.

Janne sees a lot of potential and relatable values at HUB.

– When I got to know HUB as a company more closely, I got the impression that this is a dynamic and development-oriented company. Employee satisfaction is highly valued, and there was a good spirit and vibe of doing things. The value base felt similar to what I am used to, talking about sustainability, quality, and employee well-being. When the value aspects are relatable, they are easy to endorse. These together were factors that made me feel like I wanted to be part of that team, Janne explains.

Customer collaboration and personnel as keys to success

Janne believes that effective customer collaboration is one of the most important success factors in the logistics industry.

– When internal logistics are outsourced, it’s not just about buying a service, but about genuine partnership. We need to deeply understand the customer’s business, production processes, and goals. Only then can we truly add value, Janne emphasizes.

Understanding the customer’s industry and processes is of utmost importance: every industry and company is different. As the new unit manager, Janne’s first goal is to smoothly take over the new customer’s operations and ensure the service level.

– Maintaining the service level is crucial. It’s important that we ensure the customer’s processes work. HUB is an important link in that chain. The goal is to ensure that all the work we do is reflected in better service levels for the customer – whether it’s related to time, quality, or financial matters, Uski emphasizes.

Clear metrics and employee involvement as goals

The first few weeks have naturally been spent familiarizing with the customer’s and HUB’s operations and systems. Development projects will start once the basic operations have stabilized.

– Over the next month, our goal is to build transparency and clear metrics into the operations. I want the team to have a clear understanding of expectations and achievements on a daily basis, Uski explains.

Uski considers employee involvement important. He plans to have personal discussions with each of his unit’s employees during the first few weeks.

– Working together as a team to achieve a common goal. That’s what I want to bring to this job. We are one team and move in the same, common direction. Discussions are a way to get to know individuals and the work community. I learn a lot about where things stand when I talk to everyone. The staff will surely come up with development ideas when they are given the opportunity to influence.

– This is a very good starting point. There’s a lot of potential for development. This will turn into a great thing, Janne sums up his positive feelings as he starts in his new role.
