HUB logistics CEO, Joni Sundelin, at the Logy Conference: Sustainability as part of daily logistics

HUB logistics was one of the main partners of the Logy Conference organized by the Finnish Purchasing and Logistics Association, Logy ry. The conference took place on February 8-9, 2024, in Helsinki, with a networking event in Tallinn. The overarching theme of the event was sustainability and the utilization of artificial intelligence in logistics, procurement, and supply chain management.

Over the two days, the speaker stage hosted over 20 domestic and international experts who delivered several insightful speeches on the utilization of AI in logistics, procurement, and supply chains. During the event, Joni Sundelin, the CEO of HUB logistics, spoke about the significance of sustainability as a natural part of the everyday operations of logistics companies.

His speech sparked interest in the importance of sustainability in business, and the conference hall was filled with enthusiastic listeners from various sectors of the logistics and procurement industry. Sundelin emphasized how sustainability should be an integral part of logistics companies’ operations and how it promotes sustainable and efficient business practices.

– We know that the logistics industry generates emissions. By optimizing routes and switching to renewable fuels, we can significantly impact emissions. It’s worth considering what can be done in warehousing and internal logistics. For example, layout solutions and optimization of internal transfers bring savings and reduce environmental impact.

In internal logistics, active collaboration with customers enables a lot.

– The role of logistics companies is to provide customer companies with perspectives on responsible and sustainable logistics. Advanced internal logistics reduce unnecessary work and achieve more efficient material flows in production facilities.

Ari Laurila, Joni Sundelin, Sampo Arppola, and Aapo Nurmi from HUB logistics considered the event successful.

Sundelin highlighted the importance of long-term operations. According to him, not everything can be done and completed at once; sustainability work is continuous. The key is systematicity and understanding the big picture. Companies need to make decisions about where to invest in each stage of their sustainability work.

– Investing in sustainability is a long-term investment. It’s important to set concrete, realistic, and measurable goals. This helps to focus on the essentials. Additionally, it’s essential to consider that sustainability work is not free, so a sensible overall solution that is feasible must be considered. For example, it’s not feasible or advisable to switch the entire forklift fleet to electric models all at once. The important thing is to take the first steps, even if resources are limited.

LOGY Conference 2024 was once again a successful event. Joni Sundelin and the rest of the HUB logistics team thank the event organizers.

– LOGY Conference creates an inspiring forum where professionals in the logistics and procurement industry meet, exchange views, and gain new knowledge about the development of their field. We thank the Finnish Purchasing and Logistics Association for a successful event and all participants who made the event a fruitful meeting place for logistics professionals. We continue our commitment to responsible logistics operations and look forward to future opportunities to share knowledge and learn about the development of our industry.
